The short answer
Replacement may deserve assessment when operation, glass, seals, frame, water management, or surrounding opening condition is materially compromised, or when a coordinated project goal cannot be met by a suitable repair. No single age or symptom proves replacement is required.
Document each affected opening, the observable condition, timing, and prior repair before comparing scopes.
- Separate glass, sash, frame, perimeter, and surrounding-opening concerns.
- Ask whether compatible repair is available.
- Require the proposed replacement method and exclusions in writing.
