Pane count describes the glazing construction, not the full window's energy rating. The spacer, coatings, gas fill when used, frame, operation, size, and assembly all affect rated performance.
How to compare it
- Review the NFRC label for the exact complete window.
- Identify coatings, spacer, gas fill, glass thickness, and safety-glazing needs.
- Compare full-unit replacement with glass-only or sash work only when the provider supports those scopes.
Limitations to keep in view
- Two panes do not guarantee a particular U-factor, comfort outcome, savings, or service life.
- A failed sealed unit does not by itself determine whether the entire window must be replaced.
