The short answer
A window warranty is not one universal promise. Read the actual documents for the frame and sash, insulated-glass seal, glass breakage when offered, hardware, screens, exterior finish, labor, removal and reinstallation, service charges, exclusions, claim steps, transfer terms, and who administers each part. Match the warranty to the exact product and installer named in the contract.
- Covered item
- Frame, sash, glass seal, accidental breakage if offered, hardware, screen, finish, or installation work.
- Coverage period
- The stated term for that component, including any reduction or prorating over time.
- Remedy
- Repair, replacement part, replacement unit, labor, reimbursement, or another stated remedy.
- Exclusions and conditions
- Maintenance, installation, environment, finish, movement, condensation, improper use, or other limits in the document.
- Service responsibility
- Who diagnoses the issue, submits the claim, orders parts, removes and reinstalls the unit, and pays any service charge.
- Transfer and registration
- Whether registration is required and what happens when ownership changes.
A headline such as limited lifetime does not identify which components are included or what remedy is provided. Build a one-page coverage table from the actual documents before comparing providers.
- Save the final product schedule and serial or order identifiers.
- Keep care instructions and proof of required registration.
- Photograph the installed condition at closeout.
- Record the manufacturer and installer service contacts separately.
Common questions
Common questions
Does a manufacturer warranty cover installation labor?
Not automatically. Product and installation or workmanship coverage can be separate. Read who provides each coverage and whether removal, labor, travel, or reinstallation is included.
